Distinguish character-creator items from an imported classic skin.

Two different routes

Bedrock offers character customisation and classic skins. Importing a PNG is different from assembling character-creator items. Look for the classic-skin route when your starting point is a texture file.

Check platform support

Import controls differ by platform and version. A route shown on a phone may not exist on a console. Check the official guidance and the controls actually available before repeatedly changing your file.

Use import where it is offered

Where your platform provides a custom-image import option in the classic-skin area, choose the original PNG and matching model. A PNG and a packaged skin pack are different formats. Renaming an extension does not convert them.

Review beyond the thumbnail

Inspect sleeves, back and outer layer after selecting the skin. A small thumbnail may hide mapping problems. Retain a working file to distinguish a texture issue from an interface or platform issue.

If the option is missing

Check the edition and platform first. Resizing a correct PNG will not add an unsupported feature. This article is a workflow explanation, not a device-by-device test report; use the official documentation as the reference.
